Voulez Vous pay to see holograms?

By Jules Mansell

This was the question I asked myself when I purchased tickets for Abba Voyage. However, from the moment we arrived at the purpose-built venue in Pudding Lane, London my expectations were not only met but by far exceeded.

I had pre-booked accessible parking for my Mum who struggles to walk, but we had not been able to get accessible seating. As we parked, we were greeted by two charming young people who asked where we were seated before explaining that, whilst the had an elevator to get to the seats, if my mum had wanted to leave during the show (to get a drink or use the facilities) she would struggle.  They then arranged for us to have accessible seats for which we were extremely grateful.

Josh, one of the helpful stewards, helped Mum out of the car and held an umbrella above her to shade from the excessive heat the day. He chatted with her whilst walking her in, asking about her favourite songs – a lovely demonstration of going above and beyond and engaging with visitors.

As we waited to go into the main arena I chatted with another member of staff and asked him just how good the show was – he replied: “It’s better than awesome”.

The curtain raised and the show started – wow, wow, WOW!  All my reservations were swept away. You would have believed that the band members were actually on the stage. The performance, which included a live band on one side of the stage, was flawless. The hits had us all out of our seats clapping and dancing, with everyone singing along to the ballads.

Several costume changes made the show feel real and the most dazzling light show and special effects could easily rival any blockbuster film.

The show was a mix of the band on stage and film sequences to match the tunes perfectly. One of the most charming moments was when each band member spoke about what certain songs meant to them.

It was 90-minute show, but it flew by in the blink of an eye – hit after hit after hit! I think it is safe to say that every person left with a smile on their face and singing at the top of their voice.

So voulez vous pay to see holograms – absolutely I would!
